Really good article on MSN today about the thieves that work for TSA.

Be sure to click on the link showing how to get into a locked zipper bag. Makes me want to not bother to use locks as they are so totally useless. I wonder if old fashioned hard-side no-zipper bags will become in vogue again. I'm going to take a picture of all my jewelry even tho it's going into my carry on anyway. And not taking a few things I was going to take. And going to go early so I can look at my carry-on after it's been examined and see if anything is missing before I leave the security area too.

Am I the only one who thinks it's time to get back to using the railroads?

Gee, and I was scared enough to fly anyway because of the whole being off the ground thing. Now this.

I say wear all of your jewelry. *nods*

Oh, how I miss trains. Trains don't come anywhere near me here on the coast. I love traveling by train.

Yeah, I'm a white-knuckle-flyer to begin with too and this doesn't make me happy at all. Can't wear all the jewelry since it would set off the metal detectors and they can palm/steal stuff if you take it off to go thru. The only really expensive thing I was planning on taking was my diamond ring, but I may leave that home after all. Everything else is good 1928 stuff, but not real gems/precious metals.

The whole thing about neither TSA or the airlines taking responsibility for some stuff is just outrageous.

Yikes! That makes me extremely nervous since I'll be flying for the wedding and will need to bring all of my wedding stuff with me. *bites nails* I better make sure to take pictures of absolutely everything. I think I'll also pack all of my jewelry in my carry on. That or maybe I'll just ship everything in a safe. *rolls eyes*

JMHO...if you can afford to send it by UPS or FedEx, I would. I have a nice little chinese silk jewelry roll I use to carry my stuff in my carry-on bag. Just keep your eye on your camera! Or after the wedding, upload all your digital photos to the kodak website for safekeeping.

I've definitely considered just getting everything shipped to the hotel that we will be staying at. At least then I can insure everything.

All of my photos will be uploaded onto my personal servers pretty much as soon as I get them. There is no way I am risking losing them.

You might want to talk to the hotel and see if they have someone who will accept and take charge of items that you want to ship ahead of time. I bet they have someone who does that. Might even have suggestion/discount for a particular shipping service.

I haven't flown wince before 9/11. It's hard to imagine what it would be like now. I had my good 35mm camera and other valuable stuff in my luggage. Sounds like those things wouldn't make it to the destination nowadays...

Neither the airlines nor TSA will insure any electronics that you place in checked baggage...sad state of affairs. I'm taking a checklist of everything in my checked bag just in case.

I'd take trains more if they went where I wanted in a reasonable amount of time! But they're woefully underfunded....

Gas is up to $3.85 a gal here...I can see a near future where alternate transportation is going to become very important. I'd be willing to take more time traveling if it was safer and more comfortable.
