Dear LiveJournal:

In light of all the chaos lately, I thought I'd take the time to post my views and my thoughts here where they can see the light of day. Altho my list is usually f-locked, I'm going to try and make this public for all to see. I will put it behind the cut tho, because I can get verbose at times.

So, to continue, I repeat, I am speaking to LJ and it's admins.

First off, let me say, I can appreciate both sides of the issue. The net should not be a haven for perverts and those who would do harm to others. However, freedom of speech is important. It's easy to let the morons say what they please and self-edit by not reading the crap.

I understand that when I came here there was a Terms Of Service and I have to abide by it. It would be nice if you would too since it was your idea to create it in the first place.

I have no problem with porn for adults. They are old enough to make their own choices about such matters. I do not judge. I am aware that what constitutes porn for some, is not for others. Porn is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I do not hide the fact that I read, see it, and write it occasionally to some degree. It can be a useful sex aid. I think sex is good. I think sex between two totally committed-to-one-another adults is best. I do not approve of sex with underage people or even between underage people. It's complicated and best left to adults.

I don't judge people's lifestyles. I don't think God cares about who's doing who when it comes to adults. In the end, we are all mammals and the biological imperative for the species to survive will prevail no matter what our brains tell us.

I don't care for some fanfics and the topics they choose to address in their stories. I just don't read them, but I also don't demand they be removed just because it's not what I want to read.

The most important thing I need to say here is that while I agree that some clearly evil accounts needed to be removed, I do not appreciate the way the very heavy-handed swoop was enacted taking down the innocents who did not deserve to be branded that way. I don't appreciate the way you did not communicate clearly and promptly with those who use this service and, in many cases, PAY to use this service. We deserved better treatment. And I VERY MUCH do not want LJ to become a place where conversations are censored, especially by conservatives who wish to oppress our country's constitutional right to freedom of speech.

Okay, I'm well aware that even freedom of speech is limited. You can't yell 'FIRE' in a crowded theater. I may not want to hear people say 'George W. Bush is God' but I'll defend their right to say (and think) such stupidity.

All that said, I need to say that it's important to me that LJ should indeed cooperate fully with the law and it's legal representatives, but I DO NOT WANT LJ to have anything to do with the group and individuals who identify themselves as 'Warriors for Innocence.' After doing some research on them, I find their methods clumsy and unproven to be effective; I find their opinions on related subjects to be bigoted and uncaring; I find their website to be vague and what they do smacks of vigilantism; they are un-trained and not affiliated with any reputable law enforcement branch. They appear to be a front for a Fundamental Christian group and I altho I regard myself as a follower of Christ, I do not approve of their agenda. It is clear to me they do indeed have an agenda and I think that LJ is only asking for trouble if you ally yourselves with this suspicious group.

Maybe this is too late or too little. Maybe my cyberpals are snickering to themselves because, good galloping galaxies, delph is up on her friggin' soapbox again! Or maybe, maybe, someone at LJ will actually read this and think, okay, one more person who could speak with the almighty dollar and makes some sense about freedom of speech. Whatever. At least I feel better about standing up and being counted. That seems to be what blogging is all about anyway.

In summary, LJ, please do what is correct...not what is Right wing or Left wing. Just legal and in the spirit of our Constitution. Leave judgment in the hands where it belongs.
