To all the dads of my flist, thanks for producing such wonderful, right-thinking kids. :oD
Here's the dad I'm missing today:

The picture was taken in Paris on VE day. I hope all the dads and sons of dads make it home safely from their overseas wars.

Here's where we had our Mother's Day Brunch:

No sign of Oma or Daniel, but that waitress was the most pasty white person I ever saw...she very well could have been an Ancient in disguise! ;o) Oh and the waffles really were spectacular!

If I've done this correctly and I think I have, this should take you to my album on the Kodak site: Click Here!

It's mostly pictures of flowers as I was very impressed with the Huntington Botanical Gardens, but there are some pics of my sister's place and her critters and from our trip to the Grotto to see the 'found object' artworks all built by one very creative monk. We also visited the birthplace of Helen Keller and the Coon Hound Cemetery one day. I was thrilled to be finally able to eat at Sonic, Cracker Barrel and The Olive Garden while in Alabama too.

And I swear, I'm never getting on an airplane again! :oD

DH and I decided to get a few things with his final paycheck and went out to a fancy lunch to boot. Yeah, McDonald's LOL! Hey, big kid meal is just under $5 here...hell of a deal. Anyway, they asked if I wanted boy or girl toy and I said I was in a girly mood so I ended up with a tiara. And it's not just ANY old tiara...it's Princess Aurora's tiara. If you will look at my icon, you will see my favorite Disney Princess. So was that fate or what? Sadly I got the Princess Aurora collector card instead of the 'You've Won A Trip To WaltDisneyWorld' card, but hey, I got a tiara. And I'm wearing it. Think that's silly? Just look at what the Sulky Teen is wearing today:

What a kid won't do for a tank of gas. :oD

More pics from Anchorage. My niece Kacy does wonderful store displays for a living and her house reflects that. She goes all out for the holidays and in particular, Halloween since it's near her birthday. (Day after mine!) There was a party at her house and I took a few shots of her decorations. Trust me...I didn't get pics of even half of what she had on display!

See the pretties )

Meet Melissa

This is my godchild, Melissa Smith.

She passed away 6 years ago yesterday at the age of only 22, killed in a car accident from which everyone else walked away. She was a brilliant person with an extremely high IQ and a great talent for writing and we all miss her very much, especially her parents as she was an only child. Lucy always made her the cutest Halloween costumes and I loved this one from 1980. Lucy, who is my closest pal in the family always made sure I got pictures of her and kept in touch no matter where I was living at the time and it was greatly appreciated. (I have spent more time away from my family than with them and I've become a person they don't really know anymore.)

This is the poem Melissa wrote that my sis Lucy put on the back of her memory card from the funeral.

On a country night creatures prowl,
The gentle deer and silent owl,
The sly fox and agile lynx.
Who is knowing what they think.
The frogs say that and this,
The insects swarm in a metropolis.
One ought not from a country night shy
For the crickets sing a lullabye.

Lucy, who posts here as [profile] callistoglow, has made her a really nice section in her scrapbook along with some great pictures of flowers and our home state of Michigan if you'd like to check it out. Or you can see her memorial pages at Lucy's web site here: http://www.calicolu.com/mimmem.html

Thanks Lu, for giving me my only godchild and thank you Melissa for being that wonderful, crazy, beautiful, brilliant kid.
