Stepping off into...

I'm about to take my desktop computer apart so I can blow the dust and dirt out of it. I'm terrified as I've never done this before, but I think it's the root cause of all my problems with it lately. It's slowed to a crawl and just keeps having problem after problem. Pages are taking minutes to load instead of seconds. If it's okay when I hook it back up, I'll be running all my crap cleaner-type programs to try to get it to work more efficiently.

I have it hooked up to the DSL and the router, so if it goes, I may be stuck with either setting up my laptop in a more permanent station for a while or just using the free wi-fi around town instead. I won't disappear completely, but I may be curtailing my time online for a bit, until I can afford a replacement desktop.

I have backed up what I can, but since the CD burner isn't working properly, I can only put stuff to my flash drives and hope I have all the critical stuff at least.

The best guesses for the amount of the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend is putting it at similar to last year's amount of just over $1000. While I have some bills to pay, I'm hoping I can get a new desktop with what I have left over. My monitor is still fairly new so that's one less expense.

So...wish me luck!

ETA: I'm ALIVE! I couldn't figure out how to get into the crappy thing so I called a local computer repair/supply/etc store that is run by a couple we know from church and thru family. (The husband's brother was married to the DH's daughter for a while.) They had me bring it in and vacced it out on the spot and didn't charge me for it even! (I will send them more work as much as I can!) I've run all my crap cleaner/spybot type programs and it's still slow but not as bad as before. Will still be replacing but at least it's still going for now. BTW, the case swings out sideways. WTF. No wonder I couldn't figure it out!

Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm sure it helped. :oD
