Hell to the no.

I am reading way too much about people wanting to make the sale of horsemeat for humans legal in the US. No. Just no.

And I'm not going to wok my dog either.

I wrote my congresspeeps for starters. I will get more involved in this if I can find a way to do it without having to leave home. Okay, I'd go as far as Anchorage for a public protest. I just find this idea so DISGUSTING.

..and he's answered my prayers. Pope Benny is going. Worst Pope in my lifetime. I'm not sorry to see him go and I pray for someone more reasonable, more diplomatic and more Christian.

I wish he'd take 'consubstantial' with him too altho that's not likely. (Inside Catholic joke.)

Updating a bit

Thanks for all the good thoughts for Buddy. He's doing extremely well. The doc took the tube out early and Buddy's healing so fast, I'm a bit worried taking out the sutures might be difficult. I'm still trying to keep him quiet and that involves much sitting in the front room with the tv on or in bed with a book so I'm not getting much done this week. Buddy is having no trouble going up the stairs, jumping on the bed and begging for whatever I'm eating.

We had a warming spell after another dumping of snow so it's turned the entire South Central AK into a huge mess. It rained last night and the roads are all standing water over ice. Horrible. The schools are closed as are many businesses. I just read on FB my library is closed too, but I bet whoever got scheduled are there and working on weeding/repairing/processing anyway. I'm glad I don't have to go in til Friday. I was thinking about sneaking out to see the Hobbit, but I think we'll be waiting for the dvd.

I've been doing my usual things: reading, crafting, etc. Not much else new in my life. I am trying to stay off the net so I'm not shopping or wasting time playing games etc. Finished a gorgeous crystal necklace to wear to our Employee Appreciation Dinner on Feb. 1 plus I adjusted a bonzer new blouse to wear with it. (Always have to tailor my blouses, dang it.) I need to make the matching earrings next.

Buddy has his surgery today to remove a very large lipoma (fatty tumor) on his leg/groin area. It was getting big enough that it was starting to interfere with his walking, so we had to risk the surgery to take it off. We have a great vet and I trust that if he thought Buddy was in good enough shape to go thru the surgery, then I'm sure he'll come thru fine, but I can't help but worry about my fur child. The vet will also be looking at two very small bumps that don't seem to be fatty tumors and could be problematic. Buddy is old enough that he has a lot of lumps and bumps, but most can be ignored as they don't affect the quality of his life and they are of the lipoma/cyst variety that aren't dangerous, so he will still be a lumpy old guy when he gets home this afternoon. Buddy is 11 this month so we're hoping this will help make his golden years a bit more comfortable.

ETA: He's home and resting quietly on his bed with a towel under him. He's got a drain tube in that has to come out in 5 days and stitches out 5 days after that. Just a matter of keeping him quiet for the next few days. Thanks for all the good thoughts! Please keep them going as he is in a little danger of infection still.

2012 Reading List

delphia2ohohoh: (misfits by me)
Here's what I read last year. A good deal of it was YA again, but I'm finding so many of the so-called adult books so boring or outright utter crap. Of course, this list doesn't include the numerous fics I've read (some more than once) and the books I read partly and then set down or a few I may have forgotten to write down. Or the magazine articles and mostly picture books like cookbooks which I dearly love. Approximately 1/5 of these are ones I purchased. The others were borrowed from the library. Yes, publishers, we still buy books...the ones worth buying. I'll list my 'book of the year' under the cut.

Besides the new blu-ray player I got some nice things from Santa & family/friends: a Witchblade (both seasons)dvd, Seasons 2 & 3 of Xena, some beads, a fancy/rhinestone watch, a $50 gift card to the local bead shop, a punch card for yoga lessons and a $25 ebay gift card. I'm looking at a nicer copper ring to use that on. I lost my Celtic knot copper ring a while back and while I don't generally believe in non-medical-voodoo, I have to admit the days I wear my copper ring and copper bracelet, I do have less pain in the hands/fingers.

I also got a lovely framed piece of art from our pirate book from my sister. She had it framed with a copy of the book matted below and was using it for a display piece at the bazaars she was working. Someone offered her money for it at the last one, but she was able to sell them a high-quality print from the scans instead. Now I have to move something to hang it up. Probably over the love seat in the front room.

Surprisingly, no books and I had to buy my own calendars again. :o)

ETA: Forgot to mention that I will have to schedule some surgery for my sweet puppy dog sometime next month. He has a lot of cysts/fatty tumors as many older dogs do get and mostly they are benign. However one on his leg is getting big enough that it is starting to cause some difficulty with walking so the vet suggested today that we should think about getting it taken off. He took a blood test to make sure he was healthy enough for surgery and it came back good so I'll call tomorrow to set up a date when I'm going to be off work for a few days to watch him.

Oh, and the other child is moving back in...temporarily.

Merry meet!

Re-watching the Santa Clause for the umpteenth time. I love when Scott is about to change into his SantaJammies for the first time and the Punch & Judy puppets both scream when he drops his drawers! Then Punch says, "Look, it's an emu!" So random and yet, possibly dirty! I die laughing every single time.

I have dishes to do and then a munchie/buffet kind of dinner to assemble. The boy is down from Anchorage and will be joining us. He's even going to sleep here for a change. (On the sofa bed I hope as the recliner really isn't all that comfy.) Cheese, sausage, lunch meats, raw veggies, pickles, fresh bakery rolls and there's a bottle of peppermint schnapps under the tree just waiting to be opened. Cookies to finish baking too. And some pressies to wrap. DH and I didn't buy gifts for each other because we bought the Blu-Ray player instead. But we did agree we could get some things to go in each others stockings so I have some little things to wrap up for him and for the boy.

Later I have Mass, either the kids Mass at 5 or our 'midnight Mass' at 9. Haven't decided which yet. Won't decide til I hear from the DH when he's closing up the shop.

Breakfast tomorrow will be bagels, cream cheese & bacon since I couldn't find any decent smoked salmon at the store. Maybe some sausage gravy and biscuits if the boys are in the mood too. Then I get to spend most of the day in the kitchen again cooking the turkey dinner. Don't ya love the holidays? LOL!

Snowing and blowing here, 20mph gusts and fortunately it warms up when it snows so it's up to the double digits at least.

I hope you are all having a white Christmas or at least a reasonable facsimile. Merry Christmas, flist!

Time to shop at JCP. The MillionMom bigots are pushing another protest against the store for using Ellen in their ads. If you can't buy, at least email or call them in support of their advertising choices. It's clothing people, not sexuality that is the core of the matter. Silly people.

And speaking of gay love, I'm reading "The Song of Achilles," which supposes that the demi-god hero was gay. Well written.

RIP to Dave Brubeck. I'll take five today in your honor.

Am crafting a gift for my boss for the secret santa exchange at our holiday party this Friday night. It's not going well. And I have no plan B. Wish me luck.

Read this. Seriously. We have published stuff on the shelves at work that isn't any where near as good as this is.

The Act of Creation Will Be Your Salvation

All her stuff is good so when you're done with it and want more, her other stuff is as good or even better.

More Fics

A couple more Avengers fics happened. It seems I'm obsessed.

Not exactly canon. No spoilers that I can think of. Nothing graphic but mentions of sex and kissing, sometimes boy kissing. Hopefully amusing.

ETA: I cannot believe how many hits in just one day! Apparently all it takes is some boy kissing to pump up those numbers.

Looking for a rec

My dvd player is not being reliable lately and I was thinking about upgrading to a blu-ray player. My resistance in the past was because I didn't want to have to replace all my dvds, but I understand you can play dvd on blue ray and I don't HAVE to buy only bluray discs. So, anyone rec a brand or model or tell me to stay away from any in particular? How much should I have to pay? Help me obi-wans!

The new fic is up here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/437649

SPOILERS! There are SPOILERS if you haven't seen the movie and have carefully avoided any place where you'd hear/read spoilers in which case, why are you here or on the net at all? There are SPOILERS here! :oD

Anyway, go read and give me some hits please? Comments are always welcome too and as my friends you get to say WTF were you thinking and I won't be offended. Much. (snort! I slay me!)

Birthday Greetings!

1928 Jewelry Co. is doing Marvel themed accessories for men and women. I could go for a Thor necklace. I can vouch for the company's quality so I think these could be collectors items in the future.

Is is just me or is the merchandising for Avengers gone just berserk?
